No More Excuses!

It’s the 1st Feb! Goodbye January Excuses!

Well, here we are, the whole month of January 2019 has passed us by. In one way, extremely quickly and in many others, super sloooowly!
I’ve definitely been guilty of using January as a bit of an excuse not to be tackling things head on. I’ve probably played a little bit too much XBox (yes I’m one of those), definitely not sewed enough and procrastinated a LOT! I keep writing lists, and not really doing much on them either.

Well the excuses have to stop. It’s February!

It hasn’t been all XBox and birthday’s (Georgia turned 3!) I got my Brancaster Messenger Bag inspired by Harry Potter all done. I didn’t quite get it ready for my hair cut, but a few days later it was 100% complete.

If you’ve no idea what I’m on about, check out my last blog post.

Here is the finished item. I tried my hardest not to spend too many pennies to make it, so used as much as I could from my stash. I covered the buttons myself too; now there’s an addictively fun process! The bag was a surprisingly straight forward make. It looks so beautiful in it’s original pictures, I thought I’d have a tough time bringing it all together, however the instructions and illustrations are great; I even changed it up a little by adding an adjustable strap instead of the fixed one from the pattern.

Other than that, I haven’t done much sewing. I’ve been repairing quite a lot of garments as I’m trying to be much more conscious of just throwing things away when they’re “broken”. I most recently repaired my husband’s Aberdeen Wheelers Cycling Cap. It’s a very old cap with lots of history and extremely worthy of being restored and looked after.

The stabiliser in the peak was all broken in pieces and the brim tape mucky, shredding and coming off. So I did a bit of googling and found a stabiliser that would be suitable and ordered some bias tape to go around the brim. I’m really pleased with the outcome and hope my hubby is too!

What’s next?

This morning I received my very first Sunshine post from Sew Me Sunshine. I can’t believe it’s taken this long to order from Harriet and I’ll be ordering from her plenty more! Absolutely beautifully packaged with a gorgeous postcard and the fabric is rather lovely too. If you don’t know anything about Sew Me Sunshine, I urge you to go check them out and support their small business. I’m using the gorgeous viscose twill I ordered to make the Pussy Bow Blouse I got from the PDF Club of Sew Over It.
And just to add to that, a few lovely ladies over on Instagram have started a really wonderful sewing challenge. It starts today and is all about sewing and showcasing patterned and printed fabrics.
For the month of February is it all about Florals; and for once, I actually have something floral to sew up!!! I’m so excited! Tamlyn (Sewn_on_the_Tyne), Samantha (purplesewingcloud) and Kealy (voiceofacreative) have rounded up some incredible sponsors for prizes. Just a few include, Tilly and the Buttons, 1st for Fabrics, Minerva Fabrics and Sew Me Sunshine! There is even a discount code to use over at Pin & Sew UK on Aga’s beautiful florals. Head there and use FLORAL15 for 15% off all florals/foliage fabric this month.

There is going to be a Sewing Patterns and Prints challenge each month and the more months you enter, the bigger the chance to have more entries in to a grand prize draw at the end of the year.
Head over to their Instagram for all of the details on how to enter.
I think this challenge is an amazing idea with wonderful prizes. It’s a great way to get more people sewing out of their comfort zones with patterned and printed fabrics and also to support small businesses.

That’s all for now beautiful people. Here’s to a much more productive February. Happy sewing ❤
